When her husband, Senator Dave Culver, throws a political fundraiser sponsored by Donna (the former wife of Dave's deceased father, legendary Texas political figure Sam Culver), Luanne expresses her disdain for attending such functions to Donna's boyfriend and future husband, Ray Krebbs. Dutiful Luanne, accepting the best role of a Texas politician's spouse, sticks by Dave, a bit reluctantly, for he is her husband and she loves him, as she lamentingly says "What choice do I have???"
Cementing said role, Luanne reappears briefly in Season 4, Episode 9, "The Prodigal Mother," at-- you guessed it-- a fundraiser of her husband's. Played by a different actress now, Luanne speaks not a word, but servilely stands behind Dave's right shoulder while he receives the Ewings. As the slightly awkward grouping quickly breaks up, Donna then spirits Luanne away.
